Job Description :

League School of Greater Boston is an award-winning, year-round program dedicated to the education of children on the autism spectrum. Our team approach to education creates a collaborative, supportive and open environment within our community. We are currently seeking a Registered or Board Certified ART THERAPIST. *$2,000 SIGN-ON BONUS after 60 days!

Position Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Expressive Therapies or Art Therapy required.
  • Registered Art Therapist (ATR) credential or Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) credential required.
  • Two years in special education or related experience with autistic population is preferred. Experience with the tenets of Art Therapy and its application with autistic population is also preferred.
  • CPR, Safety Care and First Aid certifications.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass CORI background check.

Supervision Received: Assistant Director of Education

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Upholds the mission, vision, and values of League School of Greater Boston;
  • Assesses client needs using drawing, painting, sculpting, or other artistic processes.
  • Analyzes or synthesizes client data to draw conclusions or make recommendations.
  • Develops goals for Individual Education Programs (IEP) and/or Transition Planning Forms (TPF) for students in conjunction with the team, as needed;
  • Designs and demonstrates differentiated instruction by using a wide variety of teaching/therapy techniques to meet the needs of all students;
  • Develops individualized treatment/lesson plans that incorporates tenets of art therapy to provide guided self-expression experiences to help students cope with social communication and emotional regulation challenges;
  • Implements accommodations and curricular modifications as specified in IEPs, and as needed to meet the learning needs of students;
  • Conducts art therapy sessions/lessons in individual and/or small group formats using various types of visual arts;
  • Collaborates with other professionals in a co-teaching model to create and implement therapy lessons and activities that address students’ social communication and emotional regulation needs;
  • Plans, prepares, and teaches lessons and activities in accordance with goals and objectives outlined in students’ IEPs;
  • Plans, prepares, and teaches therapy lessons and activities that address students’ social and emotional expression through art;
  • Creates and implements therapy lessons that are predictable, relevant, interactive, and developmentally appropriate for students;
  • Collects, records, and documents data regarding student progress in instructional areas, as needed;
  • Develops therapeutic relationships with students to include behaviors such as the use of an appropriate voice volume, and setting reasonable boundaries with communication and actions, etc.;
  • Supervises their classroom/therapeutic space and students at all times (including on and off-campus outings) for social, safety, and community skills;
  • Provides a neat, organized, and safe classroom/therapeutic environment;
  • Follows schedules within the classroom/therapy space and the school to provide structure and limit stimuli for the students;
  • Implements Student Support Plans (SSPs) as created and written by the students’ team;
  • Completes required documentation, as needed, including Incident Reports, Accident Reports, IEP goals and objectives, quarterly progress reports, report cards, etc.;
  • Develops curriculum content for the Art Education/Art Therapy Program via use of evidence-based theories and practices;
  • Evaluates equipment and supply needs, coordinates purchase of needed equipment and supplies, and oversees the maintenance of equipment and supplies within the department;
  • Closely monitors art therapy budget, including monthly reconciliation of expenditures;
  • Monitors health and safety of students and follows through with school medical staff on incidents requiring medical attention;
  • Uses Safety Care techniques, as trained, to intervene physically in emergency behavioral situations;
  • Keeps all student-related information and documentation confidential in accordance with FERPA, HIPAA and other state and federal mandates;
  • Completes orientation (upon hire), annual training, and other training as mandated by League School of Greater Boston, MA DESE, and the MA Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC);
  • Attends conferences, meetings, and professional development opportunities to expand knowledge base and as required for recertification and licensure;
  • Works collaboratively as a team player. Attends supervision, staff meetings, classroom meetings and program meetings, as needed. Comes prepared with agenda and ready to discuss issues and solutions;
  • Actively participates in “missing student” searches, sometimes during inclement weather, pursuant to the “Missing Student Emergency Protocol”;
  • Supports students and staff during fire drills or in the event of an actual fire or other emergency requiring evacuation;
  • Maintains regular attendance and reports to work prior to the beginning of the school day;
  • Performs other related duties, as deemed appropriate and necessary by League School of Greater Boston such as evening training, parent/guardian open house night, student art shows, etc.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Google Suite (GMail, Google Docs, Google Drive, etc.), Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Edge.
