General Summary

Perform repairs on a wide variety of sophisticated medical equipment owned and operated throughout MyMichigan Health. Has comprehensive knowledge of practices, procedures, and types of equipment. Performs with minimal or no supervision.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• (35%)* Need to evaluate, coordinate, and execute repairs on therapeutic, diagnostic and life support equipment, including PCs and software used in clinical applications. Repairs are scheduled and performed in a manner to maximize uptime and minimize downtime.
• (35%)* Perform preventative maintenance on a wide variety of sophisticated medical equipment including diagnostic, therapeutic, life support and equipment including PCs and software used in clinical settings that are owned/operated within MyMichigan Health. The electrical safety and performance testing is done to verify compliance with MyMichigan Health, MDCIS, and Joint Commission guidelines.
• (30%)* Repairs and preventative maintenance will be documented and recorded as required and mandated by federal CFR requirements, Joint Commission and MDPH. In addition to paperwork for off campus billing, repair log forms, travel expenditure forms, preventative maintenance reports, monthly summary sheets, performance verification forms and incoming equipment inspection forms.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Evaluations of new equipment being considered for purchase, pertaining to durability, accuracy, and ease of maintenance, use, and satisfactory completion of performance and safety tests. Inspects and assembles new equipment.
• Evaluates new equipment for future training, repair parts inventory, technical documentation and test equipment needed.
• Continuing education, inservice new equipment and provide inservices as necessary along with equipment seminars and manufacturer schools, and cross train other technicians after schooling.
• MyMichigan Health is a technology driven organization and employees need to demonstrate competency in Microsoft® Windows.
• An employee may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

• Associates degree in Biomedical Technology (BMET) or related field from an accredited college. In lieu of an Associate’s degree in BMET, consideration will be given to a certificate from a military biomedical training program. An Associate’s Degree in Electronics Technology from an accredited college in combination with one or more of the following: completion of college-level course work in basic chemistry and basic anatomy/physiology, certificate or diploma in biomedical equipment technology, CBET, CRES, or CLES certification from the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).
• Troubleshooting skills to component level.
• OEM training in at least two specific areas applicable to equipment currently in use at the MyMichigan Medical Center – Midland and MyMichigan Health Care affiliates preferred.
• Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
• Must follow MyMichigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time.

May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.

Must follow MyMichigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.

May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
