Busy ophthalmology office excited to continue to grow in clinical research to include dry eye, blepharitis, glaucoma, retina and more! Seeking a fast learner to join our current research coordinator in growing this department.
JOB SUMMARY: This individual is responsible for performing an extensive number of data collection functions as required by the sponsoring organization, providing the sponsoring organization with compiled data, demonstrating comprehension of the ophthalmic technician skills as outlined by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO), and providing support to clinical staff when not performing clinical trial workups.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High School diploma.
2. Minimum 1 year of research experience preferred. Biology education as a substitute allowed.
3. Ophthalmology experience preferred.
4. Valid CPR certification.
5. Certified phlebotomist preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Communication & Responsibilities
a. Oversees clinical data collection as it relates to study participants.
b. Obtains informed consent as it relates to clinical trial, including double-blind aspect, as appropriate.
c. Discloses participatory guidelines as required by sponsor.
d. Acquaints all patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed.
e. Informs patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how the patient will be affected during the tests.
f. Obtains patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications.
g. Meets with physicians on a regular basis regarding ongoing progress made by their patients participating in studies.
h. Performs accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include:
· Visual acuity
· Manual lensometry
· Confrontational visual fields
· Stereo testing
· Evaluation of motility
· Pupillary function tests
· Color plates
· Applanation tonometry
· Refractometry
· Angle assessment
· Dilation of pupils
· Diagnostic testing
i. Performs other tasks specific to the physician’s needs, as a result of new technologies.
j. Manages appointment changes, following through with all changed appointments to ensure every participant is examined as recommended by study sponsors.
k. Performs other tasks as assigned.
2. Administrative
a. Maintains detailed accurate records.
b. Provides sponsor with report as expected.
c. Create source documents for study visits
d. Collect supplies from sponsors and ensure everything is accounted for such as lab kits, ancillary supplies, and investigational medication.
e. Schedule and participate in web conferences and teleconferences for each study protocol in order to stay updated.
f. IRB submission and communication.
g. Maintains cleanliness in exam and procedure rooms.
h. Performs other tasks as assigned.
