Job Description:

SK Siltron CSS has an exciting opportunity at its Auburn and Bay City, MI sites for a Desktop Support Technician with a proven track-record of customer service and issue resolution capabilities. This position will provide 1st level support to 500+ local and remote desktops, laptops, and workstations while also maintaining the hardware inventory. Key skill sets include 1st and 2nd IT helpdesk support for hardware, software, LAN, peripheral devices (routers, printers etc.), interpreting end-user needs to IT requirements and providing proactive service. Must have extensive experience in PC, Microsoft, and general desktop software areas.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Build and deploy PCs, wireless networks, and peripheral devices (such as printers, scanners, mobile/smart phones) related to desktop infrastructure, in accordance with department standards.
  • Maintain installed PCs, networks, and peripherals with routine maintenance searches for improvement opportunities.
  • Identifies improvement areas.
  • Identify potential changes and system improvements and present them to leadership for consideration and implementation.
  • Ensure that work is performed in accordance with department guidelines.
  • Identify, explain, and document problem resolutions clearly and effectively.
  • Check and maintain IT equipment (servers, workstations, tablets, printers, A/V etc.) to ensure functionality.
  • Install and configure appropriate software and functions according to specifications.
  • Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems.
  • Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work.
  • Working with a helpdesk ticketing system to resolve or escalate issues.
  • Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule.
  • Identify computer or network equipment shortages.
  • Participate in on-call remote and/or on-site support for off hours support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field of study.
  • A+, Network+ or MCSE certification is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years’ experience as a Desktop Support Technician.
  • Strong understanding of hardware, software, and network troubleshooting.
  • Experience with remote management of client computers and servers.
  • Elevated analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Initiative-taker and possess a level of professionalism that meets our company standards.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, changing environment with multiple deadline-oriented projects.
  • Good written communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrates elevated problem-solving techniques.
  • A willingness and commitment to learn new things and grow new skill sets.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to seek solutions to problems using one’s own resources.
  • Comfortable to work with minimal instructions and be self-motivated to achieve results.
  • Time management skills.
