Position Overview

The Director of Finance is responsible for directing and managing the activities of the finance, accounting, and campaign data processing teams to ensure accurate reporting and effective management of the organization’s assets. The position will manage the department’s strategies and will ensure that the organizational goals and objectives are met with particular emphasis on financial accountability. The position develops and maintains financial safeguards to ensure that the organization is compliant with GAAP standards as well as grant funder financial regulations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

● Direct, coach, and provide feedback for the Finance, Accounting, and Campaign Data Processing team members, and ensure accountability for accurate and timely completion of the team’s work.

● Develop, implement, and manage department strategic goals.

● Effectively develop, maintain, monitor, and analyze financials, grants, budgets, and projections.

● Review and reconcile general ledger, bank, and investment accounts.

● Oversee the financial period close and audit processes and reporting.

● Create and maintain a system of controls over all accounting and campaign management functions.

● Ensure the accuracy and functionality of the accounting and campaign donation management systems and reports.

● Manage risk management portfolio and maintain liability insurance policies.

● Manage and monitor grants and contracts to ensure compliance.

● Conduct financial update meetings with grantors, department managers, and contractors.

● Oversee the internal and external financial and governance audit processes and relationships.

● Conduct internal audits on campaign and financial activity.

● Design, document, implement, and provide training for policies, procedures and processes to ensure accurate and efficient recording and processing of financial information.

● Safeguard, manage, track, and protect the assets and resources of UWMS.

● Maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, vendors, and Board of Directors that are consistent with the UWMS mission, values, policies and goals.

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related area and minimum of 5 years relevant experience. Three years of leadership experience.

● Abreast of current financial and nonprofit management environment.

● Excellent computer skills and proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, and database management systems.

● Excellent financial modeling skills, which include an aptitude for advanced functions within MS Excel and Google Sheets.

● Possess strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including making speeches, giving presentations and leading training sessions.

● Possess strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, tasks and projects efficiently and effectively.

● Display a high level of effort and commitment to performing work, and demonstrates responsible behavior.

● Capable of maintaining a high level of confidentiality.

● Previous working experience in a diverse cross-sector and multi-disciplinary team environment.

● Innovative with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervise the Finance, Accounting, and Campaign Data Processing staff. Direct supervisory responsibility includes the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such actions.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to use finger and hand motion, and occasionally to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. Physical requirements include climbing stairs and being able to carry and lift storage boxes up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
