Job Overview:

The primary responsibility will be preparing job sites for underground and aerial fiber construction. Heavy manual labor includes potholing, digging bore pits, ground restoration, site preparation and clean-up. This person will also assist with placing conduit and fiber and building entrance work.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:

  • Locate existing utilities or hand dig and backfill as appropriate
  • Flexibility to work across all divisions (underground construction, aerial construction, outside plant, inside installation and maintenance) as workload requires
  • Haul tools and equipment at job site
  • Willingness to learn how to operate heavy equipment
  • Able to set-up traffic control devices per design plan
  • Restore ground conditions after excavation is complete which includes sod, sidewalks and asphalt
  • Assist with trenching around utilities, placing buried conduit, and blowing fiber
  • Assist with building entrance work including accessing false ceilings and crawl spaces
  • Follow established safety rules on job sites and to and from job sites, and use common sense in maintaining a safe environment for self, team members, customers, and the public
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends and travel as needed
  • Effectively function and communicate in a professional manner
  • Other company related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Skills in operating various vehicles and construction equipment
  • Skilled in reading various construction documents including maps, staking sheets, and manuals
  • Ability to utilize bucket trucks, ladders, climb power poles, access crawl spaces, ceilings, and trenches to access various installation and construction points as required
  • Ability to sit, stand, crouch, reach, and lift for long periods of time
  • Ability to use full range of motion in fingers, hand and wrists to operate necessary equipment
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations including Microsoft Office Suite

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1-year utility construction experience preferred
  • Valid Class A CDL license preferred
  • Experience with aerial and underground construction preferred
  • Experience working around live fiber, coaxial cable, and power preferred

Relationships

Reports to: OSP Supervisor
Supports: Customer Service, Technicians, Supervisor, Engineering
Internal: Regularly confers with Pinpoint employees and other departments within the parent cooperative as needed
External: Maintains great relations with vendors, contractors, subscribers, customers, and the general public in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
