JOB SUMMARY:

Pipefitter is responsible for the performance of skilled duties including, but not limited: excavation, laying, assembling, testing, repairing and maintaining various types, sizes, and kinds of pipes, conduits, valves, manholes, vaults and appurtenances related to utility distribution, collection and service. Trains lesser-skilled crew members. Performs related construction, site-work, distribution system and maintenance as required to support the utility infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Installs and repairs utility mains, conduits, services and related infrastructure according to plans, specifications, and working drawings.
Operates heavy and light equipment (construction and excavation)
Excavates and back fills earth using equipment in streets and off road.
Installs and maintains cathodic protection on services and mains.
Performs surface restoration both on and off street.
Completes construction and repairs according to plans, specifications, and working drawings.
Verifies or modifies, and documents actual installation.
Controls traffic flow at work sites.
Responsible for inventory of tools and fittings on work vehicles.
Operates and performs daily maintenance on varied equipment such as trucks, air compressors, sandblasters, and backhoe.
Performs integrity tests of installed systems.

Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possess an equivalency high school diploma. Must have a minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience working on natural gas mains and/or services installations and/or repairs, and must possess EWN certifications.
Experience in the operation of excavation equipment preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES - knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools involved in the laying and maintenance of pipes.
Ability to interpret and construct from blueprints, working drawings and specifications.
Ability to accurately record technical and location data for completed work.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
Ability to perform under stressful emergency situations.
Ability to perform in adverse weather conditions.
Ability to work regular and extended hours when required.
Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the general public.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with air-brake endorsement.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

· Job may require working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, or snow.

· Job may require operation of equipment in all elements without climate control.

· Must wear personal protective equipment at all times. (i.e. Hard hats, re-inforced boots, safety glasses, FR clothing, gloves, Hi-Viz outerware as required).

· Repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers.

· Ability to work 8-10 hours per day, 40 hours per week. Weekends and overtime as required with little or on short notice.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS – (THE EMPLOYEE SHOULD BE ABLE TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMODATIONS):

· Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.

· Ability to lift by one’s self work loads of 50 lbs.

· Climb ladders of all types.

· Must possess good vision / hearing. (Normal or corrected).

· Ability to work while constantly moving on one's feet.

LICENSES:

· EWM Certifications

· Class A CDL with air-brake endorsements
