What we want
The Graphic Designer III position is responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of the design and development process for communication and photo projects/needs of the college, including pieces for print, web, social media, and email marketing. Researches and implements design and communications best practices, develops conceptual design solutions and strategies, and performs expert-level graphic design and communication consultation work. Ensures college and department materials follow college and university brand guidelines., print and digital products conform to journalistic, communication, and design best practices, and assists faculty and staff with technical design needs as appropriate. Assists the director in developing and implementing comprehensive, college-level, strategic communication programs for news and information, social media and email marketing as well as manages projects and coordinates production schedules with vendors and other communications staff. Required Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-
4 years of related experience in graphics design, web development, print and electronic media, marketing, or related design field.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-
Working knowledge of both Macintosh and PC systems as well as design and word processing programs.
-
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
-
Demonstrated ability working with diverse populations.
Preferred Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Graphics Design, Fine Arts, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

6 to 8 years of related experience in graphic design, social media, print and electronic media, communications, marketing, or related field.
Responsibilities
-
GRAPHIC GENERATION - Performs expert-level graphics design and consultation work. Provides strategic direction and oversight of the design and development process for communication projects, including pieces for print, web, social media, and email marketing. Designs graphics for brochures, pamphlets, booklets, postcards, bookmarks, posters, banners, scientific figures, research posters, magazines, books, social media, web, and emails, etc. utilizing various design programs including but not limited to Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Microsoft Office products. Develops conceptual design solutions and strategies. Researches and implements design and development best practices. Assures that print and digital products conform to journalistic, communication, and design best practices. Assists faculty and staff with publicity and technical design needs. Researches and implements design and communication best practices and strategies. Train and mentor other graphic staff members.

PROJECT COORDINATION - Provides creative art direction, brand oversight and strategic management of various projects including social media, email marketing, and integrated communication campaigns. Works closely with various vendors and other communications staff to ensure timeliness and quality of final products. This includes art proof checks (color, etc.), press checks, and any other function necessary to ensure all project criteria is met in a superior manner. Assists the director and other communications staff in maintaining databases and lists as needed for email marketing. Assists the director in developing and implementing comprehensive, college-level, strategic communication programs for news and information, social media, and email marketing. Assists in the creation of content for advertisements, event pieces (invitations, program, signage, etc.) and other marketing materials as needed.

PHOTOGRAPHY - Coordinates, shoots, edits and produces photos for print, web and video channels. Organizes photos to be taken at special events sponsored by the college. Collaborates with university photographers for special occasions and makes college photos available for media and/or marketing requests. Manages and organizes digital assets, uploading photos and distributing pictures to individuals as needed.

BRANDING - Ensures college and department materials follow college and university guidelines. Provides leadership to the college and department stakeholders on how to adhere to college and university brand guidelines. Provides expertise related to brand structure and implementation. Represents the college on university-level design committees. Collaborates and networks with university colleagues and others in higher education design roles. Performs other duties as assigned.
