Serenity Hospice is a not-for-profit hospice company established in 1989 and part of Alliance Health, Inc. Serenity Hospice is dedicated to improving the quality of life through compassionate care for individuals and families facing end of life illness.

We are currently looking for a full-time Hospice Volunteer Coordinator

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Responsible for recruiting, screening, training, assigning and supervising Serenity Hospice volunteers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Coordinates Volunteer Program in accordance with Serenity Hospice short- and long-term goals.
• Directs an on-going recruiting effort to increase volunteer participation.
• Screens all potential volunteers.
• Plans and conducts training classes as necessary.
• Assures that the program meets the standards set by regulatory or certification bodies regarding the participation of volunteers.
• Assesses patients, families, and areas of the program for potential volunteer involvement through participation at interdisciplinary team meetings.
• Monitors reports from the volunteers and brings urgent items to the attention of the IDT as appropriate.
• Provides direction for the solving of problems involving volunteers.
• Submits timely reports to the supervisor regarding volunteer activities and levels of participation.
• Evaluates all volunteers at least annually.
• Designs on-going continuing educations programs for volunteers.
• Maintains volunteer personnel files.
• Designs volunteer appreciation activities or programs.
• Maintains records of volunteer activity to meet regulatory requirements.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s degree in health care, education, liberal arts or social services preferred.

· Excellent organizational, writing and presentation skills.

· Ability to build strong empathetic relationships with volunteers.

· Knowledge of hospice philosophy and concepts of care.
