Imperium Advisors (IA) is seeking a legislative intern for the 2023 legislative session. The internship will last from February 1st– May 15th, 2023. Legislative interns are responsible for reviewing legislative testimony (sometimes in-person) and providing concise written reports. This is a great way to learn more about our legislative process here in Vermont and gain experience with public policy.

Legislative Intern Responsibilities:

• Review legislative meetings on topics of interest for IA clients, taking careful notes on complex public policy issues (may be asked to cover meetings in person on occasion).
• Provide thorough and concise reports to IA on a regular basis.
• Asking questions or doing research if you are unsure of a policy concept.
• If asked to cover a committee meeting in-person, conduct yourself in a professional manner.

Qualifications:

• Strong written communication skills.
• Ability to comprehend complex public policy issues.
• Background in policy or government relations desired.

In most cases schedules will be flexible with up to 10 hours per week in assigned work.

Imperium Advisors (IA) is a small privately held consulting firm based in Burlington, Vermont. Most clients are not-for-profit organizations, and the nature of the consulting we provide generally falls under public policy research, advocacy, communications, and legislative monitoring. While most work is completed by the owners and operators, IA also relies on a network of contractors to assist with specific aspects of the projects that we work on.

Imperium Advisors has managed large and complex statewide and regional issue campaigns as well as public policy research and development projects. We enjoy great relationships with stakeholders across Vermont, including municipalities, economic promoters, regulatory bodies, and legislators. We will draw on these connections as necessary to assist with this project.

Over the past three years, we have provided over 1,300 hours of legislative coverage. This includes reviewing legislative documents, providing testimony, prepping witnesses, and lobbying legislators.

Much of our work involves communicating complex ideas and building consensus on legislative issues, such as property tax reform, education, economic development, public pensions, and good government. Effective communication of difficult ideas with diverse groups is right in our wheelhouse.
