SUMMARY

The Local Grown Intern will work with our Sales-Marketing and Grower Relations Departments. This position partners with multiple departments at CCF assisting Account Executives selling produce to Wholesale, Retail and Food Service customers throughout the Midwest. (No direct sales will be required). The Local Grown Intern will travel with the Local Grown Representative to visit local farmers and observe these meetings in addition to providing any reporting or materials needed for the meetings. The intern will learn about produce, sales and negotiating in this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in managing buyer relationships and produce sales via telephone
  • Negotiate pricing with Farmers – Commodities – Brokers on Sales Orders
  • Track account commodity pricing and daily orders
  • Address customer issues as instructed
  • Identify and maintain a database of local farmers
  • Establish personal relationships with the farmers directly
  • Inspection of produce and rotation of product based on customer specifications
  • Work with Quality Control / Food Safety and Transportation departments for inspections arriving at CCF Distribution Center
  • Work to identify new business opportunities to help create value within the organization
  • Assist with weekly locally grown Marketing & Communication Report sent weekly to partners and prospective local farmers
  • Intern generated projects

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • College Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • Major or related course work in Ag Business, Sales, or Supply Chain
  • Work from May to middle/end of August or early September in conjunction with college

Must have the ability to ascertain the needs of customers and the CCF. Possess the reasoning ability to understand the market and problem solve transportation needs and purchasing decisions.

Anticipated hours per week during summer internship: 40

Must have the ability to travel up to 10% of the time (rarely overnight).
