Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist (OT) will provide clinical and professional leadership at DS Therapies. The OT will be responsible for the evaluation, reevaluation, development, and implementation of a plan of care for students and clients as part of a Christian community. The OT will work cooperatively with all members of DST and DSS to include students, clients, families, therapists, and administrators to support the development of those in our care, keeping in mind our mission. The full time OT will treat students and clients with various delays and disabilities.

Requirements

  • Master Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • CPR: Healthcare Provider
  • Florida license or provisional Florida licensure required.
  • Level 5 finger printing background
  • 2-3 years of pediatric experience is highly preferred, including related internships

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition including type and frequency of treatment.
  • Designs and implements a plan of care which is appropriate to problems identified and involves the healthcare team as well as the patient/family.
  • Educates and counsels patients and families regarding treatment plans and progress. Plans and/or assists with patient discharge from therapy services. Provides information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and support resources.
  • Supervises and delegates the care provided by certified occupational therapy assistants and therapy technicians according to established licensing laws, state regulations and practice standards. Mentors peers and students.
  • Maintains and documents productivity standards established in conjunction with the administration.
  • Records daily patient documentation, statistics, and charges according to TDSS standards.
  • Maintains ongoing continuing education to maintain professional licensure and clinical excellence.
  • Supervises assistants, rehabilitation aides, and others (i.e., interns/students) according to experience.
  • Supports the billing department to facilitate efficient billing practices.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as directed by the administration.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to appropriately interact with students, patients, parents/guardians and other health care professionals in all work related situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Analytical ability necessary to evaluate patient condition, to interpret and analyze data, assess patient progress, and determine appropriate follow-up.
  • Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families and co-workers.
  • Ability to problem solve to formulate a plan of care and evaluate the patient's response to care.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions.
  • Oversee support staff to include interns and others as the school grows

Essential Work Requirements:

  • Bending and stooping, climbing, kneeling, lifting/carrying patients 35 pounds or greater, reaching, repetitive movements, running, sitting, squatting, standing, walking, biological waste, blood and bodily fluid handling, latex, slippery surfaces, and keyboard entry

● Annual Salary: $55,000+ based on experience
