Job Description :

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • General: Plans, develops and implements progressive rehabilitation programs for patients

according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy.

  • Psychiatry: Plans, develops and implements psychosocial rehabilitation programs for patients

according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
A. General OT:

  • Essential: standing, walking, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting usual weight of 15 pounds up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling usual weight of up to 50 pounds, carrying usual weight of 15 pounds.
  • Continuous: standing, walking, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, reaching below shoulder.
  • Frequent: sitting, stooping/bending, lifting usual weight of 15 pounds, pushing/pulling usual weight of up to 50 pounds, reaching above/below shoulder, squatting, twisting body, carrying usual weight of 15 pounds, repetitive arm/hand motions.
  • Occasional: kneeling, crawling, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods, frequent gripping of an object.
  • Operates various office or healthcare equipment including but not limited to computer, hand tools, heat gun, splint pan, sewing machine, hydrocollator, standing frame, patient care lifts, pulse oximeter, vital signs machine, fluidotherapy, AED, fax machine, washer/dryer, stove, oven, microwave, wheelchair, bath chair, bedside commode, paraffin bath and calculator.

B. Psychiatric OT:

  • Essential: standing, sitting, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting and pushing/pulling usual weight of 25 pounds; carrying usual weight of 10 pounds, reaching above, at and below shoulder level.
  • Continuous: Finger dexterity.
  • Frequent: climbing stairs, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.
  • Occasional: stooping/bending, kneeling, walking on uneven ground, squatting, twisting body, lifting and pushing/pulling weight up to 50 pounds, carrying weight up to 20 pounds, reaching above shoulder level, repetitive arm/hand motions.
  • Operates computer, typewriter, therapeutic tools and kits.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
A. General OT:

  • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Some exposure to body fluids and communicable diseases; exposure to cleaning agents.
  • Work environment is fast paced and sometimes stressful due to various demands on therapist.

B. Psychiatric OT:

  • Exposed to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • Some exposure to body fluids, communicable diseases, fumes/odors/dust from craft materials.
  • Work environment is sometimes stressful from patient’s physical outburst and yelling. Management of confused/disoriented and combative patients may involve tasks which may compromise physical safety.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

  • Current Hawaii State license as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current certification as Occupational Therapy Registered (OTR) from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc.
  • Current BLS/HCP CPR certification.

V. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One (1) year of professional Occupational Therapy experience in an acute care hospital or outpatient setting.
  • Assignment to Behavioral Health Services Departments:

o Experience in Behavioral Health.
