Job Description :

Under the supervision of the Human Resource Manager, the Payroll/ HR Generalist performs duties at the professional level in some or all of the following areas; payroll functions, timekeeping, benefits management, FMLA, worker’s compensation, employee relations, and HR/Payroll software maintenance.

  • Monitors employee eligibility for benefit plans. Reviews benefits with employees and processes enrollment, cancellation or changes. Organizes and manages annual open enrollment communications and election process. Maintains and distributes list of new and cancelled employees under each benefit plan. Verifies benefit billing accuracy and processes for payments. Ensures electronic enrollments are sent properly maintained and sent to insurance companies. Balances monthly benefits statements.
  • Reports, maintains and monitors all workers’ compensation case files; follow-ups on open cases.
  • Manages and maintains FMLA leave process.
  • Assists in the distribution and monitoring of employee performance reviews and evaluations and ensures they are done in a timely manner, (i.e. 90-day review, annual evaluation).
  • Implement the bi-weekly payroll process, verifying accuracy of hours. Process and post payroll functions to ensure direct deposit transfer is completed within required timeframe. Ensures that payroll taxes are in balance each payroll. Ensures that payroll federal taxes and retirement are paid timely.
  • Completes quarterly 941 Federal Tax Report and submits quarterly state unemployment tax report.
  • Maintains and improves HR/Payroll software. Fixes and builds new components to the system as needed. Runs periodic audits to ensure system is functioning correctly. Creates and supplies reports out of the system as needed.
  • Assists with various audits as needed.
  • Annually completes and distributes W2 and 1099 forms to employees and IRS. Maintains electronic consent for employees.
  • Annually assists with ACA and 1095-C forms to employees and the IRS.
  • Advanced computer skills, including data entry, data processing, communication tools and payroll and human resources software.
  • Strong background and knowledge of payroll and/or human resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to quickly learn the organizational structure.
  • Troubleshoot software issues for payroll and HR.

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, or equivalent. An equivalent combination of education, experience can be substituted. Certification(s) preferred PHR, SHRM or equivalent.
