JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
I. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Requires the ability to use standard specimen collection equipment. Must have or be able to quickly develop general knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory operations, tests performed in laboratory sections, and general office procedures. Ability to operate standard office equipment as well as hospital and laboratory computer equipment. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, and knowledge of/ability to learn all applicable State and Federal regulations.
2. EQUIPMENT USED: Laboratory specimen collection equipment, personal computer, printer, scanner, photocopier, facsimile machine, I 0-key calculator, multi-line telephone, hospital information system, and other general office equipment.
3. MENTAL DEMAND: Requires reading (documents, instrument results, and policies), detailed work, confidentiality, problem solving, language, math, reasoning, verbal communication, written communication, customer contact, multiple current tasks, constant interruptions, analytical skills related to the evaluation of data, ability to work under pressure in a fast paced work environment, and the ability to cope with confrontation and assist with problem resolution.
4. COMMUNICATIONS: Interacts with internal customers which includes, but not limited to, employees, management staff, physicians, volunteers, and students. Interacts with external customers which includes, but not limited to, home health agencies, physician offices, sales representatives, colleagues, patients, and regulatory agency representatives. Interacts as oflcn as daily with both internal and external customers by face-to-face, telephone, or written communication. Key customers of this position include employees, management staff, patients, and physicians. Performance expectations of the key customers for this position include timely and accurate responses as well as courteous and respectful communication.
5. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Minimal to moderate physical eff01i, including bending, crouching, kneeling, cleaning, balancing, lifting, carrying, reaching, twisting, writing, squatting, sitting, standing, talking, hearing, handling, walking, and seeing. May require lifting of reagents or other stock supplies for storage and use. Requires the ability to differentiate color and the ability to operate laboratory instruments. The typical work day involves the following strength requirements: Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to IO pounds of force frequently.
6. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in clean, well-lighted laboratory and patient care areas with potential for exposure to hazardous materials including chemical and bio-hazardous materials. Category I: Constant exposure to blood/body fluids.
7. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING: High School Diploma or equivalent required; course work in Phlebotomy preferred; minimum of one year experience preferred. Experience with office equipment and medical terminology preferred.
8. POPULATION BEING SERVED BY POSITION: Serves a population which includes all age categories, e.g.: neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults.
