OPPD’s Operational Technology Department is looking for a Software System Engineer (SSE) who is a technically competent, critical thinking individual that is passionate about the design, development, and integration of new technologies and engineering applications necessary for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the OPPD Outage Management System (OMS) and Distribution Management System (DMS). We’re seeking an SSE to join a team of hungry, hardworking, goal-orientated individuals.

Department Overview:

The mission of Operational Technology Applications (OT Apps) within the Enterprise Operational Technology Department is to provide comprehensive engineering solutions to improve transmission and distribution system reliability and enable future growth of the electric transmission grid and grid modernization efforts. In addition, the group provides outstanding engineering support to Operations by resolving complex issues via implementation of state of the art technology.

This position is in the EMS (Energy Management System) Operations team within the OT Apps group. The EMS Operations team provides technical support for Grid Operations and Energy Marketing & Trading as well as operational, engineering, and project management support for the OMS and DMS platforms. The OMS will be used for field dispatch of OPPD electrical system outages, internal and external communication of outages and the DMS will be used by OPPD’s Distribution Operators to monitor, control and optimize the performance of the district’s distribution system.

Position Summary:

The EMS Operations Software System Engineer will report to the Manager of EMS Operations. This group consists of both Computer and Electrical Engineers who provide operational support of tools utilized by Grid Operations and Energy Marketing and Trading. Within the role, you will be expected to participate in strategic planning and software design of the OMS/DMS interfaces, work with project managers and partners within other departments (i.e. QA/Testing, Application Development, Operations) for their support in completing critical work, and managing application performance.

The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of the field including operating systems, infrastructure, networking, and security, but that will just get you in the door. What will separate you from the pack is demonstrative expertise with the following languages, tools, and technologies:

• C, Python, Java, Swagger, MuleSoft
• Middleware platforms, API services, data models, etc.

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science or related field, or a combination of education and work experience that provides the necessary skills to perform the essential job functions.
• Two (2) years of experience in a similar position.
• Experience in installation, configuring and integrating systems.
• Experience in software development and coding.
• Strong knowledge of at least one development language.
• Strong knowledge of personal computer software and hardware, particularly Windows 10, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office product suite, Active Directory and Exchange.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
• Must be able to work independently and collaboratively with minimum supervision. Requires exceptional organizational skills, problem solving skills, and flexibility in changing priorities.
• Be a team player with the ability to share knowledge and develop colleagues for the overall benefit of the team and organization.

Desired:

• Familiar with tools and platforms such as Jira GIT, Jenkins, Ansible.
• Familiar with C#, C++, Java, Groovy, PLSQL, PowerShell, PeopleCode, JavaScript, Python, HTML, CSS.
• Familiar with Middleware (ex. Mulesoft, NextAxiom, Weblogic).
• Familiar with Linux or Windows servers.

Salary Grade: S4

Minimum: $81,427

Maximum: $122,141
