Eastridge Workforce Solutions is seeking a Senior or Principal Scientist for our client in San Diego, CA.This is an opportunity to work with an exciting regenerative medicine company in the stem cell therapy space.

The candidate will report directly to the Vice President of R&D and be part of a dynamic research and development team focused on hair follicle generation using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).

This company is seeking abold and passionateengineer who will lead the product development of our novel cell therapy in preparation for a First-In-Human clinical trial. The candidate will design and develop tissue engineering approaches to optimize the transplantation strategy for our iPSC-derived hair follicles into rodent and large animal models. The candidate will generate a variety of biomaterial constructs capable of supporting tissue morphogenesis of our iPSC-derived organoids, characterize the interactions of the constructs with the iPSC-derived cells in vitro, and evaluate their therapeutic efficacy in vivo. The candidate will optimize the engineered approach by leveraging in vitro and in vivo models, microscopy techniques, as well as various ‘omics including genomic and proteomic analyses.

Duties And Responsibilities:

• Design and conduct experiments to optimize proper hair folliculogenesis in vitro and in vivo.
• Investigate and test the effect of different biocompatible scaffolds and matrices on hair follicle formation and function.
• Perform imaging characterization of the follicles including fluorescence confocal and super-resolution microscopy and to analyze the data including the use of machine learning algorithms.
• Elucidate cell-scaffold interactions essential for follicle growth.
• Work with the different R&D Teams to support in vitro and in vivo testing.
• Manage collaborator relationships for material supply, design and generation of tissue engineered constructs.
• Write reports, management pitch decks, manuscripts, technical documents, and applications for funding with increasing responsibility over time.
• Provide reports to company management regarding progress, experimental outcomes, timelines, risks, and key decision criteria
• Review and leverage scientific literature related to hair follicle development and 3D culture models.

Requirements:

Required Skills and Experience

• PhD in bioengineering plus 3-5 years of industry experience
• Experience with advanced tissue culture models including stem cell or organoid culture, 3D in vitro culture systems, murine and/or large animal model testing, biomaterial synthesis and characterization, multiple modalities of tissue engineering techniques (DLP, SLA, extrusion, electrospinning, hydrogel, etc.)
• Experience with formulating bioinks and utilizing bioprinters
• Demonstrated ability to independently design and perform experiments and procedures with high degree of complexity, demonstrating increasing expertise with a wide range of techniques.
• Most critically - the successful candidate should demonstrate ability for independent and critical thinking, excellent communication and collaboration.

Preferred Experience

• Experience making and/or testing skin construct models
• Direct experience leading complex projects
• Direct experience performing animal studies
• Industry experience developing therapeutically relevant products
