General Summary:
This position is responsible for the daily operations of the Rush Alzheimer's Disease Center's studies on human mobility and motor function. This includes all aspects of acquisition, quality control and processing of mobility-related datasets captured using a variety of wearable and non-wearable devices. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides oversight of daily operations and supervises research assistants. 2. Installs, tests and maintains devices used for collection of data related to gait, balance and mobility. 3. Acquires data captured by various types of mobility quantification devices. 4. Ensures device quality assurance and quality control. 5. Processes mobility data by filtering, extracting metrics and performing statistical analysis. 6. Programs new signal processing algorithms and scripts. 7. Develops high-throughput workflows for data acquisition and processing. 8. Communicates with data management and statistics teams to manage storage and flow of raw and processed data. 9. Supports mobility quantification efforts with collaborators outside of Rush. 10. Supports manuscript and grant-writing efforts. 11. Performs related duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Master's degree in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, kinesiology, exercise science or physiology preferred
Bachelor's degree (required) and five years of experience in lieu of a master's degree may be considered.
At least two years of recent experience in signal or image processing.
Theoretical knowledge of principles, techniques and different devices for quantifying human motion such as accelerometry, actigraphy and optical tracking.c
Experience with signal processing techniques such as filtering, autocorrelation, and frequency-domain representation of signals.
Strong programming skills and experience with diverse platforms such as MATLAB, Python, Windows and Linux. Excellent communication and analytical skills. Good technical writing skills. Ability to work with large datasets collected from thousands of study participants.
Willingness to learn new biomedical engineering, programming and data-processing methods.
