Introduction to the job
ASML US brings together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips. We design, develop, integrate, market and service these advanced machines, which enable our customers - the world’s leading chipmakers - to reduce the size and increase the functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics. Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices in Chandler Arizona, San Jose and San Diego California, Wilton Connecticut, and Hillsboro Oregon. Having joined the ASML family in 2016, HMI has become an integral part of our holistic lithography portfolio with innovative e-beam inspection & metrology solutions.
“This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with applicants who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.”
Job Mission
The System Engineer/ System Architect E-beam is expected to define the system model, budgets, and prototype solutions in support of the success of the defined technical roadmaps & products of HMI in the competitive E-Beam metrology & inspection markets.
Role and responsibilities
Job Description
Create a system model capturing the various error sources impacting the metrology and application performance originating from the e-beam sub-systems (SEM, platform, applications) and the device under-measurement (e.g., patterning error sources). This analysis should include HW and SW error sources. Deliver a budget breakdown and a system simulator from wafer pattern to calculated KPI.
Breakdown product performance KPIs into verifiable function-level KPIs and specifications for inspection and metrology applications. Based on system model and budgets, together with the Functional Architects, define the functional ownership (where a problem should be solved) and the interfaces across functions.
Define a set of representative use-cases that can be used to guide system design. Maintain a repository of test use-cases for system development and benchmarking.
Compare the actual system performance (based on system population data and measured data from actual use-cases) with physical theoretical limits and product requirements to determine performance gaps and room for improvement. Determine the uncertainty in the determined specification values.
Prototype solutions for inspection and metrology applications to close the identified gaps. Look into commonalities across methods for signal extraction from measured images (signal processing, physical models, machine learning, etc.) for inspection and metrology applications. Propose technical solutions (applications, SW, and HW) for the Function and Product roadmaps, development tools and deployment platforms (e.g., cloud-based solutions for system budgeting and solution prototyping, publishing version controlled tooling). Drive standardization of data-interfaces.
Supervise systematic code refactoring with clear roadmaps (like, where to start, use what kind of processes) and quantitative metrics.
Work within a cross-function pathfinder community to watch/gather evolving customer requirements and create a platform to prototype ebeam related applications and products
Signal architecture misalignment and organizes/prepare (4 o’clock) meetings to set direction. Coach the architect team.
Deliverables: System Models, Prototype Designs, Feasibility Reports, product performance specifications and design specifications, input in technology roadmaps.
Prepares technical input to key program decisions for review by senior executives. Manage system engineering deliverables to the product generation process such as identification of key technical risks, system performance projections and status of the development.
