About Us: Laguna Playhouse, a nationally acclaimed, non-profit, professional theatre located steps away from the Pacific Ocean in the charming arts colony of Laguna Beach, CA seeks a full-time Technical Director. Reporting directly to the Production Coordinator, the Technical Director shall function as the supervisor for implementation and maintenance of all technical elements for Laguna Playhouse productions.

About the Position: The Technical Director determines the technical requirements from designs, estimates material and production costs and communicates needs with staff, crews and contractors. The position works closely with outside scenic construction companies to insure a smooth transition into the theater. Working directly with the Production Coordinator, the Technical Director assists in ushering the completed drawings through the bidding and budget approval process to the safely installed final product. In addition to attending all production meetings and technical rehearsals, the Technical Director provide technical support to the full main stage productions, but also to the Education Department, the TYA outreach tours, special events and outside rentals of the venue.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:

§ This position is hands on and requires a range of theater experience

§ Solid technical theatre background in scenic and property construction, rigging and scenic painting

§ Skilled at accommodating diverse programming requirements and meeting scheduled deadlines

§ Solely responsible for identifying, hiring and scheduling over-hire labor crews

§ Local experience in hiring crew a plus

§ Directly responsible for maintaining a safe and supportive work environment

§ Duties include any needed maintenance and repair during a run

§ Along with Production Coordinator, helps to oversee load-in and strike at the end of each run

§ Vectorworks/AutoCad proficiency and the ability to quickly extrapolate data from construction drawings are vital

§ Ability to manage shifting and competing priorities, exercise good judgment and discretion and maintain a positive attitude in stressful environments

§ Self-motivated, detail oriented, works effectively both within a team and in self-directed situations

§ Night and weekend hours required

Physical Requirements of the Position:

§ Employees will be required to provide proof of vaccination as a condition of employment.
