This position directs, manages, and coordinates the operations of our tool room while overseeing the design and build of new tooling and the maintenance of existing tooling. Compensation based on experience. Total compensation package which includes a metric bonus is $100,000 - $135,000 per year. Schedule is negotiable but majority of work schedule must be performed within company’s core business hours. This is an onsite position.

About us: Olsen Tool & Plastics is a small family-owned company that has been in business 65 years. We have 40 employees and are located in the southwestern suburbs of Minneapolis. We are an injection molding company with a full in-house tool room that produces high quality parts for the medical device, agricultural and industrial industries. Scope of Work:

• Ensure production runs smoothly by managing the scheduling and timely completion of all tool room work including tooling design; the building of new molds, fixtures and related tools; sampling; and the maintenance, repair or modification of existing molds, fixtures and related tooling.
• Hire, train, oversee, review and manage tool room personnel.
• Assist customers with their tooling questions and requirements.
• Oversee the project management of all outsourced tooling and design work. Ensure such work is completed to project specifications, within budget and by target completion date.
• Ensure all inhouse projects stay within their material and time budgets and that all labor hours and inventory usage is accurately entered into the ERP system in a timely manner.
• Establish and retain Company’s competitive edge by implementing process improvements, by keeping machinery up to date, and pushing team towards greater efficiency and growth.
• Provide accurate and timely material cost and time estimates for customers, internal management, and internal work orders regarding repairs or modifications of existing molds, fixtures or related tooling.
• Ensure ECO’s are created for all applicable mold revisions and repairs.
• Work with the Quality Assurance department to develop quality assurance procedures and techniques.
• Order all tool room supplies, materials and equipment required to meet department needs.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Must have a trade school graduate degree or equivalent.
• Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in plastic injection mold making.
• Must understand complex mold design and construction and possess an above average mechanical aptitude.
• Must be able to follow directions and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
• Must have a strong knowledge and comprehension of machining processes and their application.
• Must be able to read prints and CAD files.
• Must be computer literate in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Must have a working knowledge of the OTP quality assurance system.
• Must be able to move between job functions in an efficient and well prioritized manner.
• Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
• Demonstrate trouble shooting and problem solving skills along with strong judgment capabilities.
• Employ supervisory skills.
• Must possess the ability to work independently and as a team member to achieve common goals.
