Position Summary:

The Tooling Engineer position is responsible for the design and development of production tooling as well as the modification of existing tooling within the facility. Responsible for design, quoting, purchasing and/or fabrication of automation equipment within the facility.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Designs and develops prototype and production tooling and machinery, including: Mandrels, trim fixtures, check fixtures, stamp fixtures, hose assembly tooling, endform tooling, tube benders, brazing tooling, T-Drill tooling, crimper tooling, glue pod tooling, etc.
• Maintains Standards for the design and fabrication of tooling.
• Works closely with the Launch Engineers to tracks tooling fabrication and vendor orders to ensure availability for production or sample requirements in accordance with customer requirement dates.
• Develops new or additional vendors as required to improve quality and/or reduce costs of tooling.
• Directs and assists Tooling Technicians in their responsibilities
• Responsible for maintenance of 3-D Printing system at the plant level, to keep the equipment in proper working order.
• Maintain and process cost information to establish parameters for future quoting of tooling.
• Develops changes, revisions or alterations to tooling and/or machinery for continuous improvement of quality and productivity.
• Attends trade shows and keeps abreast of latest technological advances that may be utilized to improve manufacturing performance, quality or reduce tooling costs.
• Prepares equipment, tooling or other items for shipment to outside machine shops for repair, for replacement or revisions.
• Keeps abreast of current and emerging process and product technology.
• Supervises and completes performance review for Tooling Technician in the performance of their duties.
• Develops and initiates continuous improvement / cost reduction projects as related to tooling and processing of product.
• The person filling this position will understand quality policies and standards as they apply to this function
• May on occasion be required to perform duties other than those specified above. Performs other related duties.

Education and Qualifications:

• Four-year technical degree with experience in tooling design and fabrication or ten years relevant engineering experience in a tooling design and fabrication function.
• Demonstrated proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD require
• Experience in 3-D printing preferred
• This position requires a person who is organized and has demonstrated a proactive task approach to work.
• This position requires a high level of problem solving and data driven analysis
• Interpersonal skills are necessary to coordinate and lead projects and meetings effectively.
