St. Laurent and Son is seeking a Vice President of Operations to join their team as part of their leadership succession plan in their Lewiston, Maine office.

Requirements of the VP Operations:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of Project Management and or Estimating experience in civil construction or a related field.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures best practices in construction or related field.
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with team members, key stakeholders, vendors, and everyone else involved in a project or operation.
  • Organizational acumen to keep track of all of the various complex moving pieces involved in a project or ongoing operations of a business.
  • Problem solving and adaptability required to be flexible and adjust as necessary.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to pitch in where needed to help the company meet its commitments to its customers.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook); proficiency with HCSS or similar software
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer/job sites as needed. Travel will vary from week to week but will generally be within a 30-mile radius of Lewiston-Auburn.

Responsibilities of the VP Operations:

  • Works closely with the President to oversee daily operations to meet company goals for quality, service, and profitability.
  • Estimating and negotiating contracts to ensure a profitable and successful project.
  • Creates policies and procedures that ensure quality and consistency across projects and service lines, and that fit the size/scope of St. Laurent’s business.
  • Assists in developing standardized work processes that ensure quality and consistency; getting staff and ownership buy in; effective training and implementation. Evaluate workflow and procedures between departments to suggest improvements and changes for efficient and effective work.
  • Develops systems and processes to address project issues, customer concerns, etc. and ensure measures are implemented to prevent future issues.
  • Evaluates resource needs (staffing, equipment, materials) and makes recommendations to President to support company goals.
  • Manage vendor relationships to optimize availability of resources and contract pricing.
  • Oversees project managers/project budgets to ensure timeliness, quality, profitability. Collaborate with PMs to troubleshoot or address operational issues that impact project success.
  • Evaluates financials in partnership with the President and Cost Accountant to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and to ensure the appropriate analysis to support business decisions.
  • Recruit and onboard staff.
  • Collaborates with company leadership to identify skills and expertise required to support ongoing growth and business opportunities. Provides input to the development and delivery of training, mentoring, and other apprenticeship opportunities to support employee development.
