GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Welding Engineer is responsible for the selection of weld procedures to support job specifications, applicable codes, and design requirements. The Welding Engineer owns the maintenance and documentation of all welder qualifications and the continuity log. The Welding Engineer acts as the technical liaison for all things related to welding between Manufacturing, Engineering, Project Management, Quality and Sales. This position is intended to be an engineering based position with approximately 10% to 20% of the time spent on the manufacturing floor.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES

• Review customer specifications and contract requirements and digest for manufacturing use.
• Generate weld maps and weld map drawings for projects to capture all code and customer requirements as well as determine the NDE for each weld joint.
• Select weld procedures for projects with collaboration from shop personnel that best utilize our processes and project quality requirements.
• Qualify new PQRs in accordance with ASME Section IX, D1.1, and D1.6. This includes releasing a Pre WPS to the shop floor that provides direction on how to weld the coupon, coordinating all preliminary NDE on the test plate, and directing the laboratory on the testing that is required.
• Work closely with manufacturing based weld engineers who are responsible to perform, oversee and document Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) in accordance with ASME Section IX, D1.1 and D1.6. This includes coordinating the destructive or non-destructive tests of the welder qualifications with QA.
• Maintain and update the Welder Continuity Log and Stamp Summary monthly for all facilities.
• Assist in the development of repair procedures.
• Communicate with customer’s technical personnel in all matters related to welding.
• Lead R-V’s Welder Training Program and ensures all topics stay relevant and constantly look to improve training methods and topics.
• Participate in weld steering team meetings.
• Justify new welding processes and associated equipment. This includes but is not limited to welding power sources, beveling equipment, automation, new technologies.
• Work closely with manufacturing based weld engineers on all of the above and share in the responsibility of the overall health of the welding program here at RVI.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Skills Required:

• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
• Strong desire to maintain all details related to our welding program.
• Attention to detail and organization.
• Strong communication skills and a willingness to work with a wide variety of associates.

Willing to Train the Right Candidate:

• Knowledge of ASME NQA-1, ASME Section VIII/IX, AWS D1.1 and D1.6.

EDUCATIONAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• B.S. in Welding Engineering or related engineering degree
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without accommodation
