The Collier Companies is seeking an In-House Legal Counsel


This role will report out of The Collier Companies Florida Home Office in Gainesville, which offers beautiful natural areas, a temperate climate, and tremendous educational, cultural, and commercial opportunities. This in-house position will join a passionate team whose supporting leaders have a vested interest in legal matters pertaining to real estate. Not only will this individual’s direct supervisor have a Juris Doctor Degree, but The Collier Companies Founder and Chair, Nathan S. Collier is a member of the Florida Bar.

Skills & Requirements:

  • Member of the Florida Bar required.

  • Minimum 3-10 years’ high-level experience in real estate and/or construction law, more experienced candidates welcomed.

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and good standing member of the Florida Bar.

  • Proven ability to independently work with complex legal issues, including structuring and drafting sophisticated real estate transactions. The ideal candidate will have experience: reviewing real estate due diligence, including title and survey; outside counsel management; corporate representation; analyzing and maintaining standard contracts and other business documents. Knowledge of any of the following additional areas of law is a plus: corporate compliance, construction defect, trusts, estate planning, employment and/or housing discrimination.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong and persuasive advocacy (professional writing sample may be requested as part of the hiring process), with an eye toward pragmatic, beneficial outcomes that best represent the company values.

  • High Emotional Intelligence, excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to interface and inspire confidence and trust with colleagues at all levels, by virtue of professional competence, personal integrity, and personal style.

  • Proven ability to handle stressful situations, a diverse and high-volume workload, and provide value in a calm and professional manner. Proven success in managing multiple tasks and priorities. Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Flexibility and strong analytic and problem-solving ability. Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Willingness to learn new areas of law.

  • Understanding of business operations, able to work for a driven, entrepreneurial JD/CPA/MBA/Bldg. Contractor/Reg. Real Estate Broker owner.
