GDM - USA, has an exciting opportunity for an Internship position for our Product Placement team. The ideal team member is open to working in a culturally diverse group and has a strong interest in Ag operations and research, is determined to complete tasks despite obstacles, & demonstrates consistent attention to detail. Summary

As part of GDM's Product Placement team, the Intern will work with the Product Placement Coordinators and Supervisors to develop hands on agronomic skills specifically related to soybean testing, management, and data collection.

Intern positions provide excellent experience that can be applied to full time positions in the industry, or in preparation for additional graduate level training in the plant sciences.

Responsibilities - What You Will Do

  • Work as part of a team in the following product development areas: field plot research, planting, plot establishment and maintenance, harvesting and analyzing samples, and data collection of traits important to a development program.
  • Responsibilities may be the following or similar:
    • Perform data collection & sample processing imperative in the development of our world-class soybeans.
    • Scouting test plots for weeds, diseases, or other pests.
    • Collecting agronomic characteristics and ratings of soybean varieties.
    • Responsible for plot establishment & maintenance
    • Ability to coordinate and assist with all aspects of the Explore Plot Program, which includes planting, growing, harvesting, preventative maintenance of vehicles and farm equipment, and warehouse activities
  • Most duties will involve outdoor work
  • An additional project to be determined between the successful candidate and the Product Placement Coordinator.

Requirements of the Role

  • Give and receive feedback to collaborate with others
  • Desire & Capacity to work outside for long periods
  • Experience operating equipment (Tractors, Planters, Sprayers, Forklift, etc.), preferred but willing to train
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Express strong interest for the fields of Agriculture, Agronomy, Plant & Soil Sciences, or equivalent field of study
  • Willingness to travel to various plot locations throughout the northern Product Development territory.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision in a diverse team environment.

Preferred Qualifications, Education &/or Experience

  • Priority will be given to students that are at least current sophomores at an accredited university.
  • Interns can be undergraduate or graduate students.
  • Agricultural background beneficial
  • Competent use of the Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience operating farm equipment and pulling a trailer
  • Commercial Driver's License & Commercial Pesticide Applicator license or willingness to obtain


Benefits & Compensation

  • The program offers competitive pay ($17+/hour)
  • Summer internship - The program extends for 10-12 consecutive weeks, May - August (flexible start and end dates)
    • 40 hours per week with the possibility of overtime and extended hours
    • Continuation into Fall Internship may be possible.
