Bastian Solutions is seeking a Commissioning Technician/Engineer to be onsite at a client for on-going technical support.

A Commissioning Technician works with other Bastian employees, customers and suppliers to utilize the latest technologies to integrate material handling systems for complex applications. The process involves understanding the customer’s goals and objectives, and developing smart engineered solutions to meet these goals. The Systems Team is the lead of integrating large scale Material Handling solutions often involving our Controls, Software, Robotics, and Consulting Teams within the project. Technologies used in this position include the full scope of Material Handling with conveyors ranging from simple gravity conveyor up to cutting edge shoe sorters with servo driven diverts, robotics, Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems from a variety of vendors, and complex add on such as automated carton erection or print and applies. The Commissioning Technician is responsible for supporting automation projects and will be capable of component selection, device troubleshooting, HMI development, PLC programming and debugging, Software debugging, onsite system checkout and startup, and validation of System Throughputs and Efficiencies. As experience grows, the Commissioning Technician may be relied on to help tie reports and code standards into engineering design standards, assist with harmonizing the various teams, and perform other duties under the guidance of the execution team. This role will be onsite in Russellville for 1 year after which the individual will transition within Bastian Solutions into a Project Engineering role and be expected travel up to 70-80%.

Qualifications:

• Ability to work long term in the country without sponsorship
• Please note this role is not remote and will require employee to work onsite
• Technical Degree or equivalent, and 3+ years experience required
• Experience with Automation, specifically material handling systems
• Experience with Allen Bradley or Siemens PLCs & HMIs (or equivalent) a plus
• Aptitude for Hands on Electrical and Mechanical troubleshooting
• 2D or 3D CAD experience (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc) a plus
• Extremely computer literate with MS Office products
• Excellent problem solving and time management skills
• Ability to travel up to 70-80% in the future (overnight travel)

General Duties:

• Close Coordination with Project Manager
• Develop and Maintain commissioning check out list specific to each project
• Installing, starting-up and troubleshooting equipment that is generally not manufactured by Bastian, but whose quality and operation reflects on Bastian and affects the success of the project
• Closely monitor the climate of personalities on the project. Anticipate problems and get help early
• Act and preform as a Site Manager when training and resourcing demands require
• Modify and debug PLCs and HMIs per customer and Bastian specifications with a focus on throughput optimization
• Clear communication with management, engineering, project management and other team members
• Develop and implement standard practices to ensure quality improvement and cost reduction

• Solve technical problems either individually or though collaboration
• Deliver successful automation projects with regards to customer satisfaction, schedule, time, and budget.
• Communicate with other Bastian team members effectively. Check and use voice mail / e-mail diligently. Maintain the team relationship.
• Attend training and become certified in applicable technologies or programs.
• Communicate strategic information regarding suppliers, customers and competition.
• Support the Systems Checklist for systems projects.
• Identify new controls, software or hardware techniques or equipment that will help maintain Bastian as a leader in our industry.
• Complete all administrative tasks/paperwork in timely manner
• Track time spent by project and enter into time tracking software
• Lead training sessions for other engineers, technicians, and project managers
• Any and all job duties as assigned.
