EMH&T has an opportunity to add an experienced malacologist/field biologist to our Columbus, OH team of environmental professionals and civil engineers. As part of our talented team, you will collaborate on a variety of exciting public and private sector projects, within a fast-paced and Top Workplace company. You will have the opportunity to play a key role in EMH&T's Mussel Survey Program, leading survey teams with the prospect of managing and growing our program. You will also be responsible for either leading or assisting with ecological surveys, wetland/stream delineations, wetland and stream mitigation monitoring, and various aquatic and terrestrial habitat assessments. In addition, your duties will include assisting the department with preparing technical documents, such as delineation reports and waterway permits (particularly in late fall thru late spring). This work will give you the opportunity to represent EMH&T to both clients and regulatory agencies. Our environmental team works both in the field and in the office, and conducts some out of town/overnight travel (primarily in Ohio). We are open to discussing work responsibilities and opportunities that are based on your experience and interests, including part-time, full-time, or seasonal employment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aquatic Invertebrate Biology, Fisheries Biology, Natural Resources, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline. Ideally, the right person for this position will have the following key competencies:

Freshwater mussel survey and relocation experience (USFWS mussel recovery permit and ODNR certification as a qualified state mussel surveyor is preferred).E
Experience managing ecological field activities involving multiple personnel.
Open water diver certification preferred, with demonstrated experience diving in rivers of varying size and in low-visibility conditions.
Interest in learning other skill-sets related to the performance of EMH&T's environmental consulting services.
Ability to work in rough terrain, inclement weather, and in remote areas.
Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
Ability to prepare technical reports (experience with preparing mussel/survey relocation reports and other ecological assessment documentation).
A self-starter that demonstrates dependability and consistent work ethic.
Ability to work independently but enjoys working in a team environment and mentoring other team members.
Planning and organizational capabilities with a high attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to express ideas clearly.
