The Program Associate plays an integral role in providing ongoing support, coordination, project management and program design for AHF’s many community partnerships and grant programs with a goal of maximizing the potential for those efforts to achieve the greatest community impact. Position Overview: The Program Associate is responsible for supporting the design and implementation of AHF’s grant programs in partnership with AHF’s Sr. Director of Strategy & External Affairs, Executive Director and Board of Trustees. This includes project management, conducting background research, grantee proposal evaluation, grant activity tracking and evaluation, general community engagement and various programmatic projects as needed. Essential Job Functions:

  • Work in close collaboration with senior leadership to coordinate and effectively implement all programmatic priorities, including strong external engagement and communication regarding AHF’s goals and strategies
  • Proactively engage with community grantees and the general non-profit community as a positive and effective ambassador for AHF and a key point of contact from AHF
  • Ensure AHF has effective administrative, operational, contracts, compliance, and other procedures that meet our programmatic goals and objectives
  • Support organizational and board committees, ad-hoc committees, and working groups that pertain to AHF’S efforts and ensure work product is high-quality and produced in a timely manner
  • Work collaboratively with the team to coordinate on issues, meeting schedules, press, testimony, etc.
  • Manage AHF’s internal grants management software, grant agreements, and related recordkeeping
  • Manage AHF’s impact reporting tools and keep them current and up to date with grantee outcome data, key activities and stories of community impact
  • Maintain an understanding of current health and social issues facing the San Diego and Imperial County region, as well as key stakeholders and organizations working to affect positive change
  • Conduct background and field research in AHF’s priority areas of focus; distill and present key learnings as appropriate
  • Support AHF community advisors and resident leader engagement, in partnership with AHF Leadership
  • Develop deep understanding of AHF’s culture with a central focus on building trust and relationships with all team members and organizations we partner with
  • Explore and identify best practices from other organizations and regions to incorporate into AHF
  • Serve as a positive and effective ambassador for AHF, including attending external events, supporting AHF’s communications and social media efforts

Knowledge & Skills Requirements

  • 3-5 years of professional experience working in San Diego in project management, non-profit, philanthropy, policy, economic development, government, or related field required
  • Experience working with diverse and disadvantaged communities utilizing a health equity lens
  • Excellent and effective communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Proactive and strategic thinking skills- great at connecting the dots and seeing patterns.
  • Sound understanding of all internal functions of an organization and demonstrated ability to execute implementation plans in a timely manner
  • Track record of success with managing systems, operations and projects
  • Proven experience in researching and composing reports on complex topics.
  • Analytical, multi-tasker, and adapts to change well.
  • Demonstrated experience developing materials and presentations for C-suite and Board level audiences.
  • Mastery level skills with Microsoft Office Suite, typing & Google drive/sheets/docs
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

AHF COVID Public Health Policy

As a public health foundation working to advance health and wellness within San Diego and Imperial Counties, it is important that we honor and uphold public health principles, both for our own team as well as for the community we interact with. As a team, we have adopted a COVID-19 policy that follows current CDC guidelines, Cal OSHA regulations, and any California Department of Public Health and local health orders and guidelines that may be in effect. All AHF employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless a reasonable accommodation has been granted. Proof of vaccination status is required. As of November 8, 2022, full vaccination is defined as having received:

  • Two doses of primary series vaccines (Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech) or one dose of Johnson and Johnson [J&J]/Janssen vaccine, and
  • At least two COVID-19 boosters, as recommended by the CDC. At least one of the boosters must be the updated bivalent booster vaccine, which became available on September 2, 2022 for people 12 years of age and older. Employees not yet eligible to receive a booster dose per CDC eligibility criteria must receive a booster dose and provide proof of same within 15 days of the date of eligibility.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $115,000 Depending on Experience
